Information about the use of cookies

1. What is a cookie?

A cookie is a text file that may, subject to your choices, be stored in a dedicated area of your device’s hard drive when you access an online service using your browser. A cookie file enables its issuer to identify the device on which it is stored for the duration of its validity. The cookie is anonymous and does not identify the user.

2. What are cookies used for on our website?

Only the issuer of a cookie can read or modify the information it contains. The cookies used on our website identify the services and sections users have visited and, more generally, their browsing behaviour. This information helps us personalise the services, content and banners displayed on our website and make browsing easier. Cookies are also necessary for certain services to function properly or to measure their audience. Cookies may be included in advertising spaces on our website. These spaces help fund the content and services we provide.

2.1. Cookies we issue on our website

When you visit our website, we may, subject to your choices, install various cookies on your device, allowing us to recognise its browser for the duration of the cookie’s validity. We use these cookies for the purposes described below, subject to the choices reflected in your browser settings when you visit our website.

The cookies we issue enable us to:

  • Adapt the presentation of our website to your device’s display preferences (language, screen resolution, operating system, etc.) during your visits, according to the hardware and viewing or playback software on your device.
  • Remember information relating to a form you have completed on our website (registration, etc.) or services or information you have selected (information requests, content viewed, etc.).
  • Allow you to access restricted areas of our website using credentials or data you may previously have provided to us, and implement security measures.

These cookies enable us to compile statistics on traffic and use of the various elements of our website (sections and content visited, browsing paths), in order to improve the relevance and usability of our services. They also enable us to count the total number of advertisements we display in our advertising spaces, identify these advertisements, count the users who click on each advertisement and compile statistics; adapt our advertising spaces to your device’s display preferences (language, screen resolution, operating system, etc.), according to its hardware and viewing or playback software; and adapt the advertising content displayed on your device through our advertising spaces to your browsing on our website.

2.2. Cookies issued on our website by third parties

The issue and use of cookies by third parties are subject to those third parties’ privacy policies. We inform you of the purposes of cookies of which we are aware and the means available to you to make choices regarding them.

Our website may include third-party applications that allow you to share its content with other people or let them know that you have viewed particular content or what you think of it. This applies in particular to “Share” buttons from social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

The social network providing such a button may be able to identify you through it even if you have not used the button while visiting our website. This type of button may allow the relevant social network to track your browsing on our website simply because your social network account was active on your device (you were logged in) while you browsed our website.

We have no control over the processes social networks use to collect information about your browsing on our website and associate it with the personal data they hold. We encourage you to read these social networks’ privacy policies to learn how they use browsing information collected through these buttons, particularly for advertising. Those policies should explain how to exercise your choices with the relevant social networks, including by adjusting your account settings.

Advertising content may contain cookies issued by third parties: either the advertiser behind the relevant content or a company acting for the advertiser (a communications consultancy, audience measurement company, targeted advertising provider, etc.) that has associated a cookie with the advertiser’s content.

Where applicable, cookies issued by these third parties may enable them, during the cookies’ validity period, to:

  • Count impressions of advertising content displayed through our advertising spaces, identify those advertisements and count the users who click on each advertisement, enabling them to calculate the amounts payable and compile statistics.
  • Recognise your device when it subsequently browses any other website or service on which those advertisers or third parties also issue cookies and, where applicable, adapt those third-party websites and services or the advertising they display to the browsing activity on your device of which they are aware.

3. Your choices regarding cookies

Several options are available to you to manage cookies.

Any settings you choose may affect your browsing on the internet and our website, as well as your access to certain services requiring cookies. You may express and change your preferences regarding cookies at any time using the methods described below.

Choices available through your browser:

You can configure your browser to allow cookies to be stored on your device or reject them, either systematically or depending on their issuer. You can also configure your browser to ask you whether to accept or reject a cookie before it is stored on your device. For more information, see “How can you exercise your choices in your browser?”

3.1. Accepting cookies

Storing a cookie on a device is subject to the device user’s choice, which they may express and change at any time, free of charge, through the options available in their browser. If you have allowed cookies to be stored on your device through your browser settings, cookies embedded in the pages and content you view may be stored temporarily in a dedicated area of your device. Only their issuer can read them.

3.2. Rejecting cookies

If you refuse to allow cookies to be stored on your device, or delete cookies already stored there, you will no longer benefit from certain features necessary to browse some areas of our website. This would apply if you attempted to access content or services requiring identification. It would also apply if we, or our service providers, could not recognise your device’s browser type, language and display settings, or the country from which it appears to connect to the internet, for technical compatibility purposes. Where applicable, we accept no responsibility for the consequences of reduced functionality in our services resulting from our inability to store or access cookies necessary for their operation that you have rejected or deleted.

3.3. How can you exercise your choices in your browser?

Each browser has different settings for managing cookies and your choices. These are described in your browser’s help menu, which explains how to change your cookie preferences.
